Article 1A. Advanced Combat Tactics
Basics of Combat
When engaging combat with any PvE creature, or fighting another player/NPC there are a few calculations which take place when attempting to deal damage of any kind.
First is actually landing the hit, which is calculated as follows;
For Weapons, 1D20 + Weapon Bonus vs Target Armor Class (AC)
For Spells and Techniques, 1D20 + Ability Bonus vs Target AC
If the total rolled value is higher than the target's AC value, the strike attempt is successful.
Once the accuracy has been resolved, the actual damage output must also be calculated.
This uses a few more stats in calculation but is still easy enough to follow, hopefully.
Starting with weapons and unarmed combat, we calculate damage in three ways;
Unarmed: (1D4 + Str) - Enemy.Def
Melee: (Weapon's xDy + Str) - Enemy.Def
Ranged: (Weapon xDy + Dex) - Enemy.Agi
Moving on to Techniques and Spells, these are similarly calculated.
Techs: (Tech xDy + P.Level) - Enemy.Level
Spells: (Spell xDy + Int) - Enemy.Spr
-Additional note for if the xDy is somewhat confusing, x is the amount of dice rolled and y is the range of the dice. For Example, a weapon with a roll value of 1d10, a single d10 would be rolled.
Gaining Experience and Runes
Experience points are gained in a few ways over the course of a thread.
Posting in any topic within the RP zones (anywhere that isn't the arena or the "Outer Realms" section) will award points based on your activity, more posts generally equals more exp reward at the end when everything is totalled up by the DM. However, to actually qualify for this the posts must be valid, meaning they need to have a minimum word count of 50+ words.
Next up is the rewards for PvE, all enemies will reward varying amounts of Exp depending on their level and will also provide loot drops, which will be pulled from various loot tables and distributed between participating players.
Runes are gained mostly the same way as Exp, except that the per-post reward is given automatically, due to the in-built currency system Forumotion has. Amount gained will vary between areas as some are intended to be tackled at higher levels.
Completing Contracts, claiming victory in the arena and potential loot drops are other ways of obtaining runes at a faster rate.
